Armenian government accepted the policy of ID cards which will be widely used since the 1st of January. New documents will finaly replace the passports for different inner transactions or state documents.
ID cards will make everything easier because nowadays the majority of the citizens use passports for registering, or signing any official documents.
Another good change is the biometric passport system which is also opened now. After a certain time all actions that require a personal document will be done by ID.

The idea is really great. I hope it will make some century-long documentation processes easier. But is it working only for those who do not have ordinary passports yet, or the ones having them should change theirs into ID cards as well?

I concur with Tatevik. Do you have more information, Gurgen? Will these cards be mandatory for all citizens as of Jan. 1, 2015? And what about non-national residents of Armenia — will they also be required to carry ID cards?
